HISTORY.
As the youngest of three children, Cissy was often "looked out for" and "taken care of," but this isn't to say that her life was any easier than her sisters'. Growing up in the shadow of Bellatrix Black was the farthest thing from easy. The eldest Black girl excelled in school and was as clever and charming Narcissa's mother and father combined. It was hugely intimidating to try to follow in Bella's footsteps, so Narcissa made a path of her own. Rather than being the passionate and formidable woman Bellatrix was, Narcissa was detached, nonthreatening, and delicate. Narcissa was raised to act in the gender role the pureblood society had set for her, and she performed it better than any of her sisters did. She was determined to set herself apart from her sisters somehow; she wanted to be the apple of her parents' eye for something, she wanted to be better at something, she wanted to be paid attention to, and she was. Cygnus and Druella doted over their youngest daughter and sang praises of the little lady's elegance and poise. Finally, Narcissa had arrived.
As a child, Narcissa never spent very much time playing. She didn't like fussing about pretending to be anything, she was exactly what she was and if she needed to pretend to be someone else to be happy, she needed to improve herself. So, while other girls played with dolls, Narcissa practiced her ballet and while her cousins ran around outside, Narcissa practiced her French. It wasn't every little girl's ideal childhood, but it was Narcissa's ideal childhood. She had everything she could possibly want at her disposal and she was satisfied, but it had the unfortunate side-effect of making everything dull. She had everything she wanted, and could get whatever she wanted, so there was really no excitement in life. Whatever happened was what she expected, and that was terribly boring.
The biggest shock of her life came when Andromeda deserted the family to marry that awful mudblood. Her entire view of the world had been shaken and Narcissa was more upset than she ever had been in her entire life. The Black family had always been above the rest of the world and they had always been untouchable. There were the few who strayed from the family and were terrible disappointments, but no one from her family would ever hurt the Black name in such a way. Then, Andromeda did. Narcissa was furious and hurt that Andromeda would dare chose a mudblood over them and that anger hasn't ceased much since, although she's adapted an aloof sort of attitude about it now. It won't do any good for her to seem upset over someone else's mistake.
School for Narcissa was the same as everything else in her life, easy and dreadfully dull. She made friends, but tired of them easily when they droned on about their problems and personal life. She overheard the gossip and drama, but was disinterested in the lives of others. She did her coursework, but wasn't invested in it. Things are getting a bit more interesting now now that the mudbloods are fleeing the school since the attacks have started.
PERSONALITY.
Narcissa fits the bill of the Snow Queen. However, being the respectable pureblood she is, Narcissa isn't aware of the muggle fairy tale, but she can guess what it implies. Though she'll look down her nose and scoff at anyone who draws comparisons between the two, secretly, she could, hypothetically, perhaps see the similarities sometimes. In Narcissa's opinion, showing any sort of vulnerability or emotion is the stupidest thing anyone could do and she's often misconstrued as a frigid, heartless bitch because of it. She doesn't see why because she choses not to be crybaby it means she's not sympathetic or because she's not a moronic clown it means she has no sense of humor. Wearing her emotions on her sleeve would only allow people to think she's at their and that they could reach her somehow and she can't have that - she's far better than any of them. Narcissa is really quite caring toward her loved ones and does whatever she can to make the comfortable. These are the only people in the world who can hurt her because she trusts them enough to let them past her stoic exterior. With them, she laughs and cries and they're the ones she gets angry with and are hurt by.
Narcissa is far from the vapid, spoiled princess who has nothing to offer but her looks and wealth and to underestimate her is an awful mistake. Because she never says much and has little visible reactions to things, people don't tend to baby her and not expect much from her and Narcissa never bothers to correct them. She is far more clever than people give her credit for, and uses it to her advantage.
APPEARANCE.
The saying "if you keep making that face, it'll stay that way" comes to mind when describing Narcissa. She perpetually looks as if she's experiencing something dreadfully distasteful and since she does tend to find most things distasteful, it's a mystery whether she looks that way out of habit, or if her face, indeed, is stuck that way. It's probably the first, since Narcissa is also capable of making other faces, though when she smiles, even genuinely, it always ends out looking like a smirk. Though, this isn't to say that Narcissa isn't pretty - She is very much a Black and it is evident in her appearance. She may not have the dramatic coloring her sister does, but she does have the same aristocratic features.
